The Ludalinks Gallery joins up displays related to the course of the River Lud. Rocks and fossils of the Lincolnshire Wolds can be handled and a model shows Louth in the Ice Age and the making of the valley through Hubbard’s Hills (the town’s country park). And see how bricks were made that built Louth.

'Do you Dig Archaeology' includes Stone Age flint tools, Bronze Age axes, Roman pottery and a rare Roman trulla (saucepan), and see how salt was made on the Lincolnshire coast in medieval times. Under a glass floor are Anglo-Saxon cremation urns and an abbot’s stone coffin from the Cistercian Louth Park Abbey

The story behind the legend of the Ghost of the Green Lady of Thorpe Hall is shown through the portrait of Sir John Bolle: he was at the Siege of Cadiz in 1596 when one of his hostages was a high-born Spanish lady. She fell in love with him and gave him gifts including a red silk bedcover with silver sequins which is displayed in a replica oak chest decorated with an image of King Henry VIII’s Nonsuch Palace. The story is illustrated with an audio rendition of the Ballard of the Spanish Lady’s Love.

The Children’s Activity Zone offers the opportunity to dress-up as Sir John Bolle and the Green Lady. Walk round the island cabinet of stuffed birds and small mammals and open drawers of butterflies and moths, all from the original Victorian and Edwardian collections.
