Rescue of Mrs L Lewis in 1953

Susan Lewis, our curator who is responsible for the care and display of items in the museum collection, is leaving.  She joined the museum team in 2010, thirteen years ago.

When we look back at all the things she has done over the years, the list is very long.  A few things particularly stand out – Susan introduced a system in which displays in the main galleries of the museum are changed each year to allow more items to be seen by the public; she is fanatical about the cleanliness of the museum galleries; she took the lead in clearing the items that had accumulated in the Mansion House before it became a restaurant; and she implemented the storage of our framed items in a room in the Sessions House.

For these, for many more things, and for her energetic forthright approach, we are very grateful.  Susan is moving to be nearer family in Cornwall, and we wish her all the best in the next chapter of her life.

The first photo shows Susan at work in the museum.  The second photo is the rescue of her grandmother, Mrs Laura Lewis, on the back of a policeman in the 1953 East Coast Flood!

Susan will be gone, but the museum goes on.  We welcome our new curator, Julie Markham.
