The team at Louth Museum work really hard throughout the year – not only for the seven months when the museum is open to the public, but also beavering away behind the scenes, planning, sorting, cataloguing, coping with red tape, renewing displays, cleaning etc, etc.

For almost a year, volunteer Julie Gough has been preparing for our 2025 exhibition GROWING UP IN LOUTH 1939-1989, which is on show from April 2nd to October 25th.  She’s been out in the community talking to people, collecting information and artefacts, and making audio recordings of their experiences in Louth.

It can be very rewarding work, for instance it was a lovely occasion when teenage friends, Maureen Lill and Margaret Lamb met again after not seeing each other for over 60 years.  Maureen (née Reed) and Margaret (née Stephenson) are both contributors to the exhibition.  Maureen was interviewed for the oral history aspects, and Margaret produced several pieces of writing.  Whilst she was working on the project Julie realised that the two contributors would know each other, so she suggested that they might like to meet again.  Both Margaret and Maureen were excited at the prospect, and in October they were brought together at Maureen’s home, where a moving reunion took place.

Do come and see the exhibition.  If you were in Louth between 1939 and 1989, there will be so much that seems familiar.  For others, come and see what you missed!
