I am a work experience student, and I find the story of John Bolle’s bedcover interesting.  In 1560-1606 there was an army captain by the name John Bolle who lived in Thorpe Hall near Louth, and who led the force of 150 ships and 8000 soldiers sent to besiege a Spanish port in June 1596.

On this ship (where John stayed) there was a Spanish Lady named Donna Leonora Oviedo.  While John was nice to the Lady she caught feelings for John, but John was a married and faithful to his wife

But when John returned to England the Spanish lady started to give him gifts to give to his wife, which included the famous bedcover and a painting of the Spanish lady in her favourite green dress

It was later believed that Donna Leonora Oviedo would go in to retirement and die of a broken heart, but despite this she always had a seat at John Bolle's table in Thorpe Hall.

The sad sprit of Donna Leonora Oviedo can be seen wandering around the gardens of Thorpe Hall in her green dress.
